Grad Party Decorations

Here's a chance to get really creative and have some fun.  Dare to be different!
Go with a theme.
Decorate with something unusual that means something to your grad.
Buy a big photo banner of your grad.
Purchase huge balloons.
Line your driveway with photos on a stick.
Build excitement for the party and hang the decorations the day before. It leaves one less thing for the day of the party.

Here are a few decorating ideas ...
Graduation Banners
Picture
Graduation Banners are a great way to acknowledge your grad. Hang them indoors or outdoors and let everyone know how proud you are.

Banners come in many different sizes and styles and can be personalized or non-personalized. Non-personalized banners can be used over and over and shared with friends.

Many online party stores have selections of graduation-themed and weather-resistant banners that are fun and easy to hang inside or out. You can even get banners with your grad's photo on them. Your local printing store may be able to make these as well.

Balloons
Picture
Nothing sets the party mood quite like balloons. Think about single balloons, balloon bouquets, or balloon arches. There are latex balloons and Mylar balloons. And there are many different colors. Use your grad's high school colors or college colors.

Line your walkway and driveway with balloons anchored into the ground with huge nails or tent pegs. Or decorate your party area with balloon bouquets.

Be sure to order your balloons ahead of time, especially if you want a lot. The selection of graduation balloons is incredible so go to the store and select them ahead of time. Most stores require prepayment for large orders.

Your local party store will have lots of fun graduation balloons including Mylar balloons in the shape of the year and latex balloons decorated with mortar boards. Or check out the selection at any online party store. You can also rent helium tanks at your local party store or rental store.

Poster Boards, Posters & Standees
Picture
oster Boards are a fun and economical way to pay tribute to your grad. They can represent your grad's life - from the time they were a teeny tot until now. Or they can be theme related - sports, activities, friends, high school, whatever is important in your grad's life. And you can have multiple poster boards representing different things. Just buy some poster board, select and print your favorite photos and stick them on the boards. If you want to be extra creative you can mat each photo and add a cool title and/or captions.

If you're not very creative or you have limited time, select one or a few favorite pictures of your graduate and have them blown up as posters. Your local photo shop should be able to do this or go to an online photo processor like Shutterfly or Snapfish.  Simply upload the photos you like and order the size you want.  You can even correct flaws such as red eye.

Your photos can also be turned into unique, life-size standees or wall graphics. Put one at the door to greet your guests.  Or set one up in a special spot in your party area where guests can get their picture taken. Photo standees and graduation-themed standees are available at online party stores. Many local print stores carry these as well.

Guest Books & Memory Books
Picture
Guest Books are a traditional way for Graduation Party guests to record their wishes & hopes for the new graduate.

There are a few different ways to do this. Traditional guest books and memory books with guest book pages come with or without a nameplate that can be engraved with your grad's name and year of graduation. Or you can use an online website like Snapfish to create a personalized, one-of-a-kind notebook which can be used as guest books.

Or instead of a guest book you can create a "memory" jar or "best wishes" jar. Put out little pieces of paper & a jar. Ask your guests to write a favorite memory or a note wishing your grad good luck and have them put it in the jar.

Tableware

Whether you're having appetizers, a buffet or a sit-down dinner, you will need some type of tableware for your Graduation Party - plates (small and/or large), cups, utensils, and napkins.

Options include plain tableware (perhaps in your grad's high school or college colors), graduation themed tableware, and personalized items such as imprinted napkins. You can even get napkins with your grad's photo on them. Online party stores and local party stores have lots of options to choose from.

Confetti
onfetti is a fun table décor you can sprinkle on your dining tables and your guest book table. You can even use it in your graduation invitations and thank you cards.

For a unique twist on confetti check out Photofetti & Wordfetti at Photofetti.com. It features photographs of your grad and congratulatory messages and custom sayings mixed in with festive confetti. Choose from ready-to-use sayings such as "Class of 2018", "Congratulations", "Congrats", "Way To G0", and "We are Proud of You" or create your own sayings. You can even include your grad's name and their school.

Unique & One-of-a-Kind Decorations
Picture
Decorations don't have to be expensive or even store bought. Think about who your grad is and what they like to do. What are their hobbies and passions? Are they into sports? Or music? Or Scouts? Do they like to travel? What college will they attend?

If your grad plays sports or is part of a group or organization, hang their old jerseys and uniforms on a clothesline. (The little jerseys, if you still have them, are really cute!)

If your grad is a dancer or figure skater, hang their costumes around the party area. Include team or individual pictures taken over the years.

Display your grad's prom dress with a photo from the dance next to it. Everyone loves to get another use out of a prom dress! Or hang your graduate's graduation gown, mortar board and tassel.

We once went to a party that was for three girls who were going off to different colleges. A picture of each girl’s face was attached to the sweatshirts from the different schools - Iowa State, St. Benedicts and Wisconsin.

Hang college pennants, jerseys and sweat shirts from the college your graduate will attend. Lids offers a wide range of college hats, jerseys, jackets and tees. Give your grad a gift of one of these college items and then use it as a decoration at the party.

Decorate with crepe paper in your graduate’s school colors or the colors of the college they will be attending or choose your own color theme.

Display senior photos of the grandparents and parents (this is a great way to get them involved).

And, of course, you can always display photos of the graduate. For ideas on how to display pictures of your grad, check out our Tribute to Your Grad webpage (include link to Tribute to Your Graduate here) ...

Deck the Yard
Picture
Don't just decorate the inside! You can decorate outside too, especially if your guests will be spending some time on your deck or in your backyard. Use balloons, banners and even flowers. Post some "The Party's Here" signs in your yard or on your street corner. Use signs that are personalized with your grad’s name on them or non-personalized signs that can be used again.
