Like, what you are planning to serve. Basic tableware includes plates, cups, utensils and napkins. Exactly what you need will depend on what you are serving and how many people you're expecting. 

If you're having a buffet or sit-down dinner then you will need larger dinner plates and utensils. If you're having appetizers and finger foods then you will need smaller plates and more of them and you may or may not need utensils.

No matter what you serve you will need napkins. Two common sizes are luncheon and beverage or cocktail napkins. With buffet style food luncheon napkins are best. With appetizers and finger foods beverage napkins are fine.

For all your tableware you need to decide if you want a special color or theme. A popular color choice is your grad's high school colors or college colors. Another option is to use graduation themed tableware.
