PIY Graduation Invitations
A great alternative to printed Graduation Invitations are invitations you print yourself using your home computer and printer. Not only are they more economical but they can also be very creative.
You can start with plain white paper or plain white card stock and design everything yourself including the graduation graphics. Or you can start with paper or card stock that already has a graduation design.
Many local office supply stores offer a small selection of graduation-themed letterhead and card stock, especially around graduation time.
Or you can find a wider selection of styles online. GraduationParty.com offers many different options in our Online Store.
There are several different sizes & styles to choose from - 5 1/2" x 7 3/4" Flat Cards, 8 1/2" x 11" Letterhead, and 2-up Invitations that perforate into two 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" invitations. Some of these styles also have coordinating envelopes.
Print-it-yourself Graduation Invitations can be printed using your home printer. Most card stock and letterhead are inkjet and laser compatible but make sure you check this before you buy.
If you're familiar with any word processing software such as Microsoft Word you should be able to create a great invitation. Just remember to run a few tests on plain paper before you use your graduation themed paper.
To create the total number of invitations you need there are a couple of options:
- You can print all your invitations at home using your home computer & printer. Just make sure you have plenty of ink on hand. For most home printers, you will likely need to feed 10-30 sheets at a time, depending on the weight of the paper. Make sure you order some extra paper to allow for those invitations that don't print properly.
- Another option is to print your invitation on a PLAIN piece of paper and take it, along with your graduation-themed paper, to your local copy store. Have the copy store copy your invitation onto the blank graduation themed paper/cards you provide them with. Just make sure they're able to handle the paper size and weight. Most copy stores should be okay with this. Have the copy store run one test invitation before they run the whole batch. Also, when you design and print your "master copy" don't forget to take into account the design on your graduation-themed paper.

Warning! You cannot copy a professional photo at a copy store. The copy store may require a written waiver from the photographer. A 1976 law prohibits copying professionally created photographs. So call your photographer to obtain a one-time copyright waiver and bring the waiver with you to the printer. They may charge a small fee. This varies by photographer. Or design your invitation with a great photo you took yourself.
Don't forget to get stamps, too. The latest trend in celebrations is PhotoStamps. You can turn your grad's photo into real US postage using PhotoStamps.
