Last Minute To Do List

This is your tenth graduationparty.com e-newsletter.  Since some schools are graduating earlier then others we hope this advice is not too late!

Today’s theme: Don’t panic!!

To Do List:

Are you all wrapped up in the excitement of graduation? It’s almost here. Are you ready? Avoid the last minute panic and start your own to do list. Here is a good place to start:

The week before the party:

  • Decide what you and the rest of the family are going to wear
  • Buy extra film and batteries and charge video batteries
  • Send more invitations to school with your graduate
  • Clean house and decorate (it’s fun to build the excitement)
  • Order balloons
  • Buy thank you notes, stamps and return address labels
  • Write a letter to the graduate telling them how proud you are!
  • Wrap gifts for the graduate and friends
  • Sit down with your graduate and discuss the upcoming schedule. Are they going to other parties? End of year activities at school?
  • Create a card basket and set up memorabilia/photo displays
  • Clean and label recycling containers
  • Confirm hotel reservations for out of town guests
  • Write your own last minute "to do" list
  • Pick up food & beverages
  • Save or buy containers for left over food
  • Confirm delivery of rental equipment and plan to be there for a quick inspection
  • Review guest list and expectations with graduate (see the next section of this newsletter)

The day of the party:

  • Sleep as late as you can; you’re gonna need all the energy you can get!
  • Wake up your graduate with breakfast in bed.
  • Take your pet to a friend’s for a day of rest.
  • Review your own "to do" list.
  • Water the plants and flowers.
  • Sweep the front entry way, driveway and garage (if you are using it).
  • Make sure everything looks nice from the street.
  • Put up yard signs and directional signs.
  • Meet with your helpers to show them where all the food, paper goods, ice, cleaning supplies and garbage cans are. Tell them exactly what you want them to do.
  • Set serving table tables.
  • Set out non-perishable food and serving dishes early.
  • Set out perishable food at the last minute.
  • Set up beverages
  • Set out trash barrels (and recycling boxes if serving canned or plastic bottled drinks).
  • Set up tables and chairs.
  • Consider weather issues, i. e. Do you have enough shade? Windy?

Give your graduate a big hug and let the celebration begin!
