Selecting a Date & Location

Hats off to the graduate in your life!!

Your Party countdown starts today!!

This is the first GraduationParty.com e-newsletter.  Let us be the first to congratulate you!

Planning a graduation party is a family affair.  Get the whole family involved – especially the guest of honor.  Let them make choices right up front.  Begin by asking them:

“What kind of graduation celebration do you have in mind?”

“Shall we invite just our close relatives and a few friends, or do you want a HUGE party?”

“Would you like to have a joint party with a friend or neighbor?”

“Do you want to have the party before or after you graduate?”

“Do you have any ideas for a theme?”

“What kind of food would you like to serve?”

“Would you like to select photos and items to display?”

As you progress with your party plans, be sure to keep them involved.

BIG decisions to be made!

When?

Picking a date is your first major commitment.  Do your research first and answer these questions:

  1. When is the graduation ceremony?

  2. Are you hoping out of town guests will come and what is their schedule?

  3. What other events may be scheduled?  Team banquets?  Award ceremony?

  4. Is your community organizing a Baccalaureate service?  This non-denominational service is very popular in some areas.  Don't conflict with it, but you may want to host your party right after it.

  5. When are your close friends or neighbors having theirs?

  6. Are there any weddings coming up that might conflict?

We often recommend having your party before graduation.  People are excited to attend the first party, and you have a much better chance with caterers and rental companies if you plan your celebration early.  Check which weekend Memorial Day falls on and plan your party the weekend before!

Since Saturday and Sunday are the most popular party days, consider a weeknight.

Where?

If you enjoy entertaining at home, most likely you will host the party there.  Rent a tent – it’s weather insurance!

Consider reserving a park, party room, private room at a restaurant, hotel, or club. Dare to be different!  If you host the party away from home, you’ll avoid a lot of stress and expenses associated with fixing up your house.

If you’ve already made these important decisions, congratulations! You are off to a great start!
